Micro-surveys (1-3 questions) deployed within your product achieve 10-30% response rates vs. 1-5% for email surveys. By asking at the moment of experience—right after completing a task, encountering a feature, or finishing a flow—you get feedback while context is fresh and users are already engaged with your product.
Strategic trigger moments include: after completing a key task (checkout, publishing content, sending message), after using a new feature for the first time, after a specific user segment has been active for X days, when users exhibit confusion (multiple clicks, back-and-forth navigation), or periodically for random sampling of active users.
Keep them truly micro: 1-2 questions maximum, under 30 seconds to complete, with clear context (ask about what they just did), optional (allow dismissal), and non-intrusive (don't block the interface). The goal is minimizing friction while maximizing insight. Follow up curious responses with optional deeper surveys outside the product.
