Skip Logic
Skip logic is a form of branching that omits irrelevant questions for a respondent based on previous answers, shortening survey length and improving completion.
Skip logic is the simplest form of branching: 'if X, skip to Y.' It is distinct from full branching in that it removes questions rather than routing to alternate sets. Skip logic is the single highest-ROI survey design decision — every question removed for an irrelevant respondent improves completion ~1-2%. Refiner's 2026 in-app benchmark shows surveys with skip logic complete at 31% vs 24% without (a relative lift of ~29%). Audit your survey: any question that ≥30% of respondents will mark 'N/A' or 'Doesn't apply' is a skip-logic candidate.
Example
B2B onboarding survey: 'Have you connected an integration yet?' If No → skip the 4-question integration-quality block. 41% of respondents skip those 4 questions, saving them ~90 seconds and lifting overall completion from 58% to 71%.
